Technical questions

I can’t log on
Check that your browser (or maybe office firewall) is set up to accept 'Session Cookies' by checking your browser security settings. You do this with Internet Explorer via Tools / Internet Options / Security. Choose “default level”. The default setting allows session cookies (these are only stored while you are on our site, and are then deleted). If you still can't log on you might be typing in the wrong username or password!

I’ve forgotten my password
On the login page you should see a link that reads 'forgotten your password?'. Click this and you will then be asked to re-enter the email address you registered with. Once you’ve done that click submit and a new password will automatically be sent to your email account. Use the settings in the email to enter. Once you have access to your account again please change your password to something memorable.

It doesn’t display correctly, am I doing something wrong?
If you are using a Mac computer try setting your browser to Firefox. If you are having further problems, write to our tech department by selecting 'Contact Us' from the top menu.

The writing is really small, how can I make it bigger?
We have modified the site to comply with DDA guidelines. If the writing is appearing very small you can amend the text by visiting the 'View' option on your browser window. Choose 'Text size' and move the text size move to medium.

When does the game start?
The game goes live on Monday 2nd June 2008.

When does the registration period finish?
The closing date for the game is Friday 27th June 2008; you can register up to and including this date, as long as the game is completed by the closing date.

Playing the game

How long does the game take?
The game can be completed in one go, or revisited on several occasions, and there is no time limit. The time it takes to play the game is dependant on your golf knowledge and how much skill you wish to use playing the game.

Can I go back and change my selections?
Once you have finished selecting all your holes you have the option to submit your final Dream 18. You can amend any of your answers up until the time you press 'submit'. Once you have submitted your selection you can NOT edit your choices.

Can I save my game if I am called away?
Once you make a hole selection that choice is saved. Each time you make a selection it is automatically saved, therefore you don’t have to make all 18 choices at once and if you leave the site your choices will be safe. When you log in again, your previous selections will appear.

Do I need to match a 72 par?
Yes. You can review and amend your choices from your scorecard to reach the 72 par total.

How much does it cost to play?
Nothing, entry and participation is free.

Can a registered user play more than once?
The game is limited to strictly one entry per person.

When do I find out the result?
The winner will be notified by the 7th July 2008, by telephone.

How do I know that my choices have gone through? Do I get an automated response?
Yes, you get an automated response, thanking you for playing and submitting your answers.

When is the closing date?
Friday the 27th June 2008.

How is the winner decided?
The winner is the person who exactly matches Jack’s Dream 18 selection. In the event of a tie, all of the winning entries will be entered into a draw. The winner will be drawn at random. If there are no exact matches to Jack’s selection, the entry which has the closest match to Jack’s selection will be the winner and the same will apply if there is more than one match.

Who chose the winning holes?
The winning holes were chosen by Jack Nicklaus.

Can I change the date of the prize?
No, this is an exclusive prize which enables the winner to be a part of the last day of The Open Championship and play the course the next day.

Can I swap golf courses for the prize?
No, the course is Royal Birkdale.

Is travel included in the prize?
No, the winner will be required to make their own travel arrangements.

Is there an age limit?
You must be over 18 to play the game.

Will the winning holes get posted online?
Yes, the winning Dream 18 will be featured on this site from Monday 14th July.
